Dear University System
of Georgia Faculty Council (Pending name):
Thank you all for
attending our meeting last Friday at
There were several
outcomes from this meeting and I hope you were able to stay. I know some
of you had to leave early, so here is a synopsis of the meeting (minutes
to follow):
1. The Governance
Breakout recommendation of creating the University System of Georgia
Faculty Council was carried forward to the synopsis portion of the
meeting. There was a motion made and seconded (with an amended motion
first) to create the University System of Georgia Faculty Council. It
was unanimous among those voting.
2. A committee is
currently working on an initial bylaws section to get the USGFC started.
Once that draft is complete, we will circulate it to you for adoption.
We encourage you to work with your President so he/she has input and is
aware of the USGFC. The current draft includes two members from each USG
Institution with one voting and one non-voting. We should all think of
those two individuals in terms of continuity. Even past chairs/past CEOs
of your governance units should be able to help with the continuity. The
draft of the bylaws are similar to the USG Staff Council bylaws.
3. A discussion
followed the conference on keeping the momentum going for the USGFC. The
discussion centered on meeting at least annually or semester by
semester. Please think about who/whom might have the next meeting. I
suggest we prepare for a Fall 2008 meeting and we need a small group to
plan that next meeting. Let me know if you are interested so we can have
a “turnkey” type operation of handing off the meetings.
4. Along with who/whom
we need to think about where. I know with our
5. Linda Noble from
the USG-BOR will be our immediate contact once the bylaws are adopted.
We should try to have the USGFC bylaws adopted by the end of this
semester so we have structure in place for next fall.
6. There will be a
webcast and minutes from the meeting that I will send to you for your
use beyond the powerpoint attached.
I know I have missed
something, but there will be followup emails as well. Again, thank you
for attending and your time on this important endeavor for the faculty
members of the USG.
