Re: Informational Update on the USG Core Curriculum Initiative
Dr. Susan Herbst, Chief Academic Officer and Executive Vice Chancellor of the University System of Georgia, was a keynote speaker at the
coordination meeting for governance leaders of institutions within the University System of Georgia held at Clayton State University on March
14, 2008. After her address, she opened the floor to questions and comments.
One of the requests was for an update on the status of the core curriculum. Some of the governance leaders expressed concern about
having to go to a website to get information and thought that an update sent to all USG faculty by email would be a more direct way to
distribute this information. Dr. Herbst promised to contact Dr. Dorothy Leland, University President of Georgia College & State
University, and request an update on the USG Core Curriculum Initiative for email distribution to USG faculty. There was a suggestion to distribute this update through the faculty governance leaders at each institution. The attached document is the update provided to Dr. Herbst by President Leland.
A webcast of portions of the March 14 meeting of faculty governance leaders has been made accessible by Dr. Russell Porter, Faculty
Governance Leader at Clayton State University and host of this meeting. The website at which these webcasts are temporarily available is here
http://ctl.clayton.edu/cid/downloads/rporter/usgfc.htm
The conversation about the USG Core is found approximately 27 minutes into the web cast entitled USGFC Meeting March 14 2008 Pt. 1 and you
can view the entire address of Dr. Herbst here as well.
