Subject: FAPC Position on IFR Calendar

Lee,

At the most recent Faculty Affairs Policy Committee (FAPC) meeting held on Friday 13 Jan 2012, FAPC charged me as committee chair to contact the Chair of the University Chairs Council (that would be you) to indicate that the members of the 2011-2012 FAPC (and not necessarily their constituencies) favor basing the Individual Faculty Report (IFR) on a calendar year instead of an academic year.

The following notes provide you contextual information with which to receive the statement above.

1. While some FAPC members had consulted with their constituencies (departments/colleges), not all academic departments were consulted by FAPC members, so the position statement is held by the FAPC members present at the meeting (12 of 13 members were present) and does not necessarily represent the position of all the faculty they represent in all cases.

2. At the next FAPC meeting, scheduled for Friday 3 Feb 2012, there will be consideration of a statement of the FAPC position and to have academic deans solicit faculty feedback from the faculty members in their respective academic units (colleges and the library) on this statement in an attempt to potentially get a sense of whether the university faculty prefer that the IFR be based on a calendar year or an academic year. This position statement will be drafted by Mary Magoulick in consulation with you.
