Curriculum and Assessment Policy Committee (CAPC)

given at the March 31, 2008 University Senate meeting

submitted by Deborah Vess

CAPC discussed the USG core curriculum revision initiative and the two preliminary models at our March meeting.  Committee members were asked to provide feedback via the Strong Foundations website.

The committee unanimously passed a motion to forward to the University Senate for further review a letter of intent from the School of Education to establish a new Master of Arts in Teaching in Middle Grades Mathematics/Science education. There is a shortage of math and science teachers, and currently there are no options at GCSU for students who wish to teach math and science on the middle grades level. Many of our current MAT students would prefer to be teaching middle grades, but must complete the MAT for teaching on the secondary level.  The program will be funded through STEM funds.
