Below is an overview of what SGA has been doing the past
few months:
- Faculty Textbook requests
- Worked with Kyle Cullars and the bookstore to
encourage faculty to submit book requisitions in a timelier manner to
help reduce student book costs. Preliminary data shows that SGA’s
efforts have made a positive impact on this.
- Introduced a New Campus Ethos Committee
- Purpose of committee is to help implement more
student and campus pride.
- Homecoming- SGA is working with Campus Life
and Student Affairs to make Homecoming a much larger event this
year.
- Trying to get live music for each
Homecoming and to make that a tradition on campus for Homecoming
week.
- Purchased a new GCSU mascot that will be
revealed on the 28th of November at the Men’s Basketball
game. Helps promote school pride. Will be used at Hanging of the
Green’s the 29th of November from 5-7
and Homecoming.
- SGA Website
- The new SGA website has all bills, resolutions,
and minutes of SGA.
- Depot Hours extension
- Depot hours should increase in January on the
weekends so that Saturday and Sunday hours are 12-8 instead of 12-2.
- SGA Q&A
- Each week SGA submits a Q&A to the colonnade. Some
questions in the past have been, 1) Why doesn’t GCSU have a parking
deck? 2) Can GCSU get a Football team? 3) What happened to the internet
speeds? 4) What’s the next new restaurant at GCSU?
- SGA Box on MyCats
- Have a new student opinion and concern box on
Mycats. Check it regularly.
- Fees- mandatory Student Fee and Student Technology Fee
- SGA had students on the Mandatory Student Fee
committee and helped with that process
- SGA submitted a proposal to the Student Technology
Fee Advising Group to increase internet speeds on Central and West
campus. Must be approved by the President.
- Electronic Voting
- Will debut in the Spring for Mr. and Ms. GCSU, as
well as SGA executive elections.
- Will hopefully increase voter turnout.
- TV Project
- SGA is working on this TV Project. 20 locations
around main campus. Main purpose is to increase student knowledge of
student events on campus, and presenting advertisements in a more
professional looking manner.
- Funded various additional organizations:
- GIVE Center, GCSU Bands, Intramurals
- SGA Goes to City Hall
- Wednesday, November 28th at 12:30. SGA
senate session in City Hall. Mayor Bentley will present a proclamation
to make November 28th 2007 officially “SGA Day” in
Milledgeville, GA. Open to the public.
- Current committees on SGA:
- Fall Break, Parking, GCSU website, Library, Night
Safety
- Extending Library Hours
- Working with the library to hopefully extend hours
on Sunday so the library can open around 10am. Will know for sure in
January.
- President Greene went to the Board of Regents Meeting
two weeks ago
- Reported to senate on things relating to the
students that deal with the BOR and USG.
