Curriculum and Assessment Policy Committee (CAPC)

given at the October 29, 2007 University Senate meeting

submitted by Deborah Vess

At our October meeting, CAPC discussed a proposal from the SOHS to change the name of their M.Ed degree in Health and Physical Education to the M.Ed in Kinesiology.  The proposal did not come to us directly from the dean, raising questions about proper routing procedures. There were also questions about what aspects of the proposal come under the CAPC purview, such as deactivating specializations within a degree program that is itself not slated for deactivation.  During the past month, Dr. Vess and Dr. Gormly revised the CAPC routing document and the academic affairs handbook, sections 3.04 and 3.04.05 to ensure clarity and consistency.  The new routing document is accessible from our CAPC page

On our agenda for the next meeting is a proposal from the SOE to institute an Education Specialist track in Special Education on the master’s level.  We have also received a formal letter about the SOHS M.Ed program in Kinesiology from Dean Gangstead, and will discuss the proposal again.
