Student Affairs Committee Report

Given to the University Senate on October 30, 2006

Submitted by Ms. Julia Huprich

The Student Affairs Committee is working on three issues: discovering how the campus feels about the commencement speaker selection process; investigating the practice of priority registration; and gathering information about the cultural events attendance requirement practice by faculty and residence halls.

The committee has compiled information from COPLAC and USG peers to discover how they choose their commencement speakers. The committee is also working on a survey that will incorporate this data with the purpose of finding out the campus’s opinion of the GCSU commencement speaker selection process. This draft survey will be distributed at the November 3 meeting.

Eve Puckett will also be on hand to discuss her programmatic model, which has been used to track cultural events on campus and could be handy if reviving a campus-wide cultural events requirement. SAC representatives have emailed their faculty to find out if there are individual class-related cultural events requirements. This information will be distributed at the November 3 meeting.

Priority registration has caused concern with some students and advisors. Kathleen McGeever has investigated the issue and will present her research to the committee on November 3.
