Dear Faculty,
We are currently seeking volunteers to serve on the University
Senate committees for the 2014-15 academic year. All members of the
corps of instruction are eligible to serve as volunteers; there is
no minimum service requirement.
Volunteers are voting members of the committee to which they are
assigned, but not members of the full senate. Committees of the
University Senate meet on Friday afternoons, three times each
semester. The only exception is the Subcommittee on the Core
Curriculum. In the past, this subcommittee has met weekly at a time
convenient to all members. The actual meeting frequency and
days/times will be determined by the newly formed subcommittee. You
are also welcome to attend the University Senate meetings should you
wish to do so.
If you would like to volunteer, please follow this link to complete
a very brief survey to indicate your committee preferences:

While the Sub-committee on Nominations will try to place all
volunteers on a committee, this is not always possible. The final
assignments will depend on the number of volunteers, their committee
preferences, and representation from the colleges.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Senate, the following
provides an overview of the charge of each of the committees.
ACADEMIC POLICY COMMITTEE (APC) – concerned with policy relating to
undergraduate and graduate education matters that have broad impact
or implication to the university as a whole.
CURRICULUM AND ASSESSMENT POLICY COMMITTEE (CAPC) – concerned with
policy relating to curriculum and academic assessment.
SUBCOMMITTEE on the CORE CURRICULUM (SoCC) – a permanent
subcommittee of CAPC which focusses on issues relating to the Core
Curriculum.
FACULTY AFFAIRS POLICY COMMITTEE (FAPC) – concerned with policy
relating to faculty welfare (e.g. authorities, responsibilities,
rights, recognitions, privileges, and opportunities).
RESOURCES, PLANNING, AND INSTITUTIONAL POLICY COMMITTEE (RPIPC) –
concerned with policy relating to non-instructional personnel
(including administrative personnel) and institutional budget and
planning functions.
STUDENT AFFAIRS POLICY COMMITTEE (SAPC) – concerned with policy
relating to the general social, cultural, and practical welfare of
students.
