University Senate Bylaws Article II, Section
1.A.2 Elected
faculty members must have at least two (2) years of service at
Georgia College& State
University at the time they take office and shall be elected for two (2) year
terms. Faculty elections for the forthcoming academic year shall be held during
the spring semester of the current academic year and shall take place in each
academic unit by secret ballot after open nominations.
It will be the responsibility of the Executive Committee to ensure that the
terms for all academic units shall be staggered so that no more than one half of
the University Senate membership changes in any given year.
Elected faculty representation shall be limited
to faculty in the Corp of Instruction.

- Nominations can be
made by any member of the corps of instruction
- Only members of the
corps of instruction that have at least two years of service at GC&SU at the
time they take office (in this case April 26, 2006, the date of the
organizational meeting) are eligible to serve as an elected University
Senator.
- The initial slate will
be composed of those eligible and willing to have their names placed in
nomination.
- If one candidate earns
a majority of the votes cast in the first round, that person is declared the
winner. Otherwise, the slate for a second round of voting will be
determined by rank ordering the candidates by the number of votes received
and taking the top vote getters until the sum of the votes of top vote
getters first exceeds 50% of the votes that were cast in the first round of
voting. The winner is then the candidate earning a plurality of the votes
in the second round of voting.
- In the event of a tie
at any stage in the process, the results will be determined by the toss of a
coin, or if more than 3 candidates are involved, through a blind draw.
- In the event of a need
to replace the at-large senator at any time during their term of service,
the second highest vote getter will be contacted regarding their willingness
to serve. If necessary, the third highest vote getter would be contacted.
If no candidate is willing to serve, a replacement election will be
conducted in accordance with University Senate bylaws.

elections (Library/GD; Schools, and at-large) no later than March 31

2.A.1.3.
The faculty
of each School shall
determine how the University Senate faculty senators are elected in their School
and each Dean shall be responsible for carrying out the election by March 1
of each year or a date specified by
the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee shall announce the results of
the School Elections to the University Community within five (5) calendar days
of March 1. The Executive Committee shall conduct the election of at large
University Senators and shall also conduct elections for University Senators
from the Library/General Division. The Executive Committee shall
announce the results of these elections to the University Community no later
than March 31.
