February 4, 2004
To: Faculty Members of the Library/General Division
From: Executive Committee of the GC&SU University Senate
RE: Library/General Division Election of University Senators for 2004-2005
According to the University Senate Bylaws, the Executive Committee each year is responsible for conducting the election of faculty senators that represent the Library/General Division (see Article II, Section 2.C of the University Senate Bylaws). Currently this area is represented by Mr. Giles Orr and Ms. Lorene Flanders. Mr. Orr’s term of service as a senator expires at the end of the current academic year while Ms. Flanders’ term expires at the end of the 2004-2005 academic year. This means a replacement senator must be elected this spring semester to replace Mr. Orr for the coming academic year. To begin the process, nominations will be accepted through February 11, 2004 from members of the faculty that comprise the Corps of Instruction in the Library/General Division*. Nominations should be sent electronically to Dr. Ken Farr (ken.farr@gcsu.edu), vice-chair of the University Senate Executive Committee. Faculty nominated will be notified and if they agree to the nomination their name will be included on a ballot listing all the candidates. Each faculty member in the Library/General Division will have the opportunity to vote by secret ballot for one candidate prior to a deadline of 4:00 pm on February 20, 2004. The ballot and further instructions will be provided when the list of candidates is disseminated for voting. The candidate that receives the most votes will then be elected as a senator to represent this group of faculty for a two-year term on the GC&SU University Senate beginning with the 2004-2005 academic year.
To serve as faculty senators, faculty must be members of the Corps of Instruction and have at least two (2) years of service at Georgia College & State University at the time they take office in the fall of 2004. Corps of Instruction faculty employed after Fall 2002 are therefore not eligible to serve on the University Senate for the 2004-2005 academic year (see Article VI, Section 2,B of the University Statutes).
Thank you for your time and consideration given to this very important task. Remember this individual will be a senator responsible for helping guide the future direction of GC&SU. If you have any questions, please contact a member of the GC&SU Executive Committee.
* A list of faculty members in the Corps of Instruction assigned to the Library/General Division is available in an excel file attached to this email or at http://info.gcsu.edu/intranet/univ_senate/Elections_0405/index.htm
