Dear Standing Committee Officers,
Congratulations on being elected an officer of your standing committee. The
Executive Committee
is dedicated to helping standing committees function as smoothly as
possible. To that end, we
are cordially inviting you to attend an orientation luncheon meeting for
Standing Committee Officers
on Friday, September 15, 2006 from 12:30 -1:45. We are particularly
grateful to President Leland for
her financial support in sponsoring this lunch as well as her ongoing
commitment to and support of
shared governance at GCSU. Should you have special dietary needs,
please share those with
Monica Wood (monica.wood@gcsu.edu or extension 4444) as she is attending to
the menu
for the luncheon. Please confirm your availability for this meeting
with me by replying to this email.
Our goal is that you walk away from this meeting knowing where to access
information and who to
consult with should you have questions. Here is a tentative list of topics
that are being considered
for inclusion as agenda items for this orientation:
- Committee business categorized as policy, information items, and
concerns.
- Responsibilities of standing committees and officers
- Suggestions/clarifications on minutes format
- Agenda Coordination
- Committee Annual Report (When is it due? What is the format?)
- Brief orientations to both the Senator Database and Motion Database
- What is an ad hoc committee? Why would we use one? What is
required to set one up?
- Officer coordination with predecessor (incoming officer consider
coordination with outgoing officer)
- Strategies for sharing information (agenda, committee activity) with
the University Community
Most importantly, we welcome your candid comments and suggestions on these
potential agenda items. Specifically,
(1) Are the items presently under consideration on target? i.e. would
information about them be useful to you?
(2) Are there items that are not listed that you would find helpful? If so
what are they?
Clearly you needn't wait for this meeting to pose questions. This email
listserv (sco@gcsu.edu) is one
way to get your question out to all standing committee officers for advice
or clarification.
Your time, service, and work as a committee officer are valued, respected,
and deeply appreciated.
I look forward to hearing from each of you.
-craig
