Workload policy – transparency in how workload is determined – faculty input and actuality – what is ACTUALLY occurring. Awareness of policies school wide.
With faculty awards, in addition to whatever discussion emerges in the meeting, I suggest that we revisit membership on the workgroup and get a plan moving for that workgroup to meet.
Hope the meeting is productive!

Hi, Lee: I hope you had a wonderful holiday and let me wish you a happy
new year.
Attached please find a proposal related to the faculty research grants
committee that ECUS is steering to FAPC for review. This is a bit complex,
but basically the various records about this committee's work are
contradictory. We want to clarify the policy and process for the coming
year. One of my assignments for fall was to supervise and provide support
for the faculty research committee. I worked on this for Dr. Haney in fall,
so I can meet with you prior to your January committee meeting to review
and/or come to the next FAPC meeting to present the issues for you. They
are a bit complex.
President Leland has recommended that the policy matter and any specific
motion for approval be focused on the funding of all four areas of
scholarship as outlined by Boyer, but that the other matters be "endorsed,"
since they represent a change in the guidelines previously approved by the
senate in 2004. She also thought the 2004 motion, which deals largely with
procedure, ought just to be removed from the record, but we will await your
committee's deliberation. The only document I did not include is the
2005-2006 task fore report, which is available online and quite lengthy. I
chose to include excerpts from the text in the narrative rather than the
entire document, which dealt with many other matters.
Start with the FRProposaltoFAPC doc.
I am sure your committee will have quite a time discussing this issue. You
may very well want to finesse the actual text of the proposal we are making,
given that it involves both policy and process and an amendment to an
earlier motion.
By the way, Dr. Linda Irwin-Devitis will replace Dr. Haney as the VPAA
appointment to your committee starting in January.
Many blessings,
Deborah
