Subject: Notes from 12/1 mtg.

Hello Lee, Flor, Alison, Nancy, Craig, Larry & Ken,

Here are notes from today’s meeting:

Craig, Larry, Ken & I met at West Campus Center to check the facility as a possibility for the University Senate Retreat on Wed., 12 Aug. 2009.  This new, attractive space can hold about 100 and should be ample for our group.  There are two separate areas (a large multi-purpose room that can be further divided into two smaller areas and a large, open work/seating area) that can be used for “breakouts” and food can be provided easily by campus food providers.  If weather permits there is outdoor space to use in addition to the indoor areas.  The bathrooms are smallish but there are additional bathrooms nearby that we can access if necessary.  Larry has reserved the facility on R-25 (Thank you Larry).  There is ample parking close by as well.  Craig is checking into the availability of the “R” parking area as well since students do not arrive until the following day.  Overall, everyone felt this was a good facility because of the proximity, the ease of securing, the usefulness, the aesthetic appeal, and the price!

We discussed the purpose/goal of the U S Senate retreat and decided that its time to evaluate the culture that has evolved and to determine if things are headed in the direction we intended.  We have no catchy name for this yet.  However, it was determined that there are at least 4 discussion topics under this umbrella, which includes 1) mission alignment, 2) intentional mentoring of the next leaders, 3) U S Senate meeting structure, and 4) something along the lines of an enticing Senate.  Further discussion will be necessary to merge and/or add to this list.  This will happen at our next meeting where we’ll also begin to flesh out of what the retreat will consist as we build a schedule for the day.

The next meeting will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, 27 Feb. (aka Mar -2) in my kitchen--114 Nature Creek Trail.  Please put it on your calendar and plan to attend.  Also please let me know if you have a prior commitment.  I hope all can be with us as we continue planning the retreat.

Respectfully--klmk
