Subject: Optional Retirement Plan State Wide Meeting

Dear Faculty Representative:

As Vice-Chair of the Academic Council, I represent the interests of the
entire faculty of the Medical College of Georgia.  Many of our faculty
are concerned over the recent reduction of the employer's contribution
to their retirement plan (ORP).  I would imagine you are experiencing
the same level of interest and concern, both with this year's 16%
reduction and with possible future reductions.

A committee was formed here on the MCG campus to address these concerns
and we felt it would be beneficial to combine our efforts with those of
all other interested parties within the University System of Georgia.
We are proposing a meeting of faculty representatives from all the USG
universities and colleges to be held in Milledgeville on Saturday,
October 7.   This meeting will begin at 2:30 immediately following the
Georgia Conference of the AAUP meeting.  The Georgia Conference meeting,
hosted by Georgia College & State University, will take place in room
2-72 of the Arts and Science building (see attached map) and features
Chancellor Davis as keynote speaker at 10:10 a.m. Our gathering will be
for the purpose of drafting a letter stating our common concerns and
recommendations.  This letter would then be mailed to Governor Perdue,
Chancellor Davis, the Board of Regents of USG, the Board of Trustees of
TRS, our State Representatives and Senators and the Presidents of all
the universities and colleges in the University System of Georgia.
Other issues of mutual interest may be discussed.

Considering the current political timetable, with elections little more
than five weeks away, we all should understand the urgency of this
effort.

Please contact me at your earliest convenience to confirm your
attendance.  My email address is rcallan@mcg.edu and my phone # is
706-721-2811.

Please do not delay.  This is an important issue concerning all of our
futures and an appropriate, unified response must be made in a timely
manner.

Sincerely:

Richard S. Callan, D.M.D.

Medical College of Georgia
