STUDENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE (SAC) REPORT

given to the University Senate on September 25, 2006

submitted by Ms. Kathleen McGeever

We met September 1st and will meet again the first Friday in October, October 6th from 12:30-1:45 in the Museum Education room.

At the September 1, 2006 meeting we agreed that we needed to continue our research for both discussion items on our plate: Commencement speaker and Activities.

COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER:

I reported that Hedy Fraunhofer will be sharing her report on the informal survey that she conducted as liaison to the faculty but we decided that we need to create a more comprehensive survey that covered the faculty, students and staff of GCSU.

Sandra Godwin is checking to see if the Institutional Research procedures for approval will be necessary for the survey.

The SAC is currently researching liberal arts campuses, COPLAC schools, and Sister state institutions and that information will be presented at the October meeting.

Other questions such as compensation (as it currently stands which is none) were also researched and will be presented to the committee.

SAC will compile the research and prepare a statement to be submitted to the full senate.

ACTIVITIES:

It was decided at the August meeting that we needed more information as to what the current culture already does as far as activities.  So, on the activities discussion we needed to do research as well.

Eve Puckett, who has compiled a list of events to be used by the residence halls, has an extensive knowledge of the cultural events on campus and could possibly help with the committee's investigation of the cornerstone program / cultural events attendance requirement. She was asked to attend the October meeting but she is unavailable so she will be scheduled for our November meeting.

Each SAC member is polling their schools and departments for information regarding current practice and campus activities as requirements.  That information will be shared at the next meeting.

Our Tentative agenda of next meeting:
Presentation of research on both discussions

Beginning to formulate and create the survey
