Executive Committee Report

April 26, 2006 University Senate Meeting

Submitted by Dr. Jude Hirsch, Vice-Chair

This report is for the period March 30 – April 20, 2006.

§    The President's Retreat Planning Committee continues to plan for the University Senate Retreat at Rock Eagle on May 11.  Based on feedback from last year’s retreat and the survey of Senator Needs conducted by the planning committee several weeks ago, there will be a New Senator Orientation at 9:30 am.  Returning Senators are welcome and would provide a valuable resource for the orientation. You may RSVP for both the New Senator Orientation and the regular University Senate Retreat on the sheet that is circulating or directly to Annette Mitchell in the President’s office upon receipt of the invitation.

§    In accordance with the motion pasted by Senate on February 27th, newly constituted standing committees will elect chairs this spring on May 1st at 12:30 in the meeting location at which standing committees have been meeting all year.  ECUS liaisons to standing committees will direct the election process.

§    ECUS reviewed the draft of the governance survey provided by Dr. Mike Rose.  The revised survey has been distributed to the Corps of Instruction.  Thank you to those of you who have completed the survey.  Please, if you haven’t already; complete the survey at your earliest convenience.

§    Thanks to all of you who completed the survey where you expressed your committee preferences.  The Committee on Nominations has made its recommendations to be addressed at the April 26 meeting of the new Senate (04-24-06).

§    A reminder that committee annual reports are due May 9th

§    I would like to make the following motion and call on Craig Turner to provide a report on the work of the University Senate Bylaws & Governing Concepts Committee.
