University Services Committee Report
University Senate
January 31, 2005
submitted by: Dr. Bill Wall

The meeting centered around two main topics of discussion, scheduling non-academic meetings and mandatory fees.  At our request Mark Pelton and two of his staff attended our meeting to discuss concerns raised about the scheduling of non-academic meetings.  Mark cleared up some misconceptions committee members had about the process.  The committee agreed that the current mechanism for scheduling these meetings was appropriate.  The committee does not intend to pursue this issue further at this time.  The second agenda item concerned the perceived high cost of mandatory fees, particularly for part-time and graduate students.  We decided to explore this issue individually (regents policy, how these funds are used, and practices at other schools) in preparation for further discussion at our next meeting.
