At the joint meeting of the Executive Committee and Standing Committee Chairs on April 10, 2008, the following
process was endorsed by those present should a tie in the vote result in three or more candidates elected to fill
the two at-large faculty positions on the committee.  It is important that this tiebreaker process is distributed prior
to the results of the election being available.

What if there is a TIE in the vote for at-large faculty positions to serve on the Provost and Vice President
of Academic Affairs Search Committee?

There are only two possibilities for ties in the election of the two at-large faculty positions on the Provost and Vice
President of Academic Affairs search committee that would lead to a question of who should fill these positions.

1. A tie for the highest number of votes received among three or more candidates
Should this occur, the names of all candidates involved in the tie shall be forwarded to the University President,
who shall select two of these nominees to fill the two at-large faculty positions on the committee.

2. Exactly one candidate receives the highest number of votes and a tie for the second highest number of
votes received among two or more candidates
Should this occur, the candidate receiving the highest number of votes will be named as an at large faculty member
to the committee, and the names of all candidates involved in the tie for the second highest number of votes will be
forwarded to the University President, who shall select one of these nominees to fill the remaining at-large faculty
        position on the committee.
