GCSU Faculty

Subject: Call for Nominations for At-Large University Senate Position

Dr. Lee Gillis's term as an at-large Senator expires at the end of the 2007-2008 academic year. This is a call for nominations to elect a replacement. The person elected will be serving a three-year (2008-2011).  Dr. Deborah Vess will continue her term.

University Senate Bylaws require:
- A secret ballot after open nominations.
- The eligibility requirements to serve as an elected faculty senator are:
(i)
Inclusion on the Corps of Instruction list used to determine apportionment
(ii)        Completion of two years of service at the time the person takes office.
- Eligibility to vote is membership in the Corps of Instruction (a list of Corps of Instruction is available at http://info.gcsu.edu/intranet/univ_senate/Elections_0809/CofI_Voting_09-28-07.xls

To begin the process, nominations will be accepted from members of the University Corps of Instruction. Nominations should be sent electronically to Douglas Goings (Douglas.goings@gcsu.edu), no later than Thursday, February 14, 2008.

Nominees will be contacted and included on a ballot should they accept nomination. Each member of the Corps of Instruction will have the opportunity to vote by secret ballot for one candidate; and that vote will occur Monday, February 18 through Thursday, February 21, 2008. The candidate who earns the most votes will be declared the At-Large University Senator.

If an At-Large senator needs to be replaced during his or her term of service or an additional At-Large senator needs to be added to the University Senate, the candidate who received the second highest number of votes in the election will be contacted to determine his or her willingness to serve. If necessary, the candidate who received the third highest number of votes will be contacted.  This process will continue until either a candidate in the prior election agrees to serve. If none of the candidates from the prior election wishes to serve, a replacement election will be conducted in compliance with the University Senate Bylaws.

To avoid nominating a faculty member already scheduled to serve on the University Senate, a list of the faculty that will be serving on the University Senate for the 2008-2009 academic year is available at: http://info.gcsu.edu/intranet/univ_senate/Elections_0809/All_Election_Results.htm

If you have any questions concerning this election for an At-Large Senator, please contact Douglas Goings at douglas.goings@gcsu.edu or  478-445-2565.
