RE:       Call for Nominations for At-large University Senate Position

Nominations from among Corps of Instruction faculty must be received by March 16th, 2004.

Faculty already elected to serve on the University Senate can be seen at http://info.gcsu.edu/intranet/univ_senate/04_05_Univ_Senate.htm.

According to the University Senate Bylaws, the Executive Committee each year is responsible for conducting the election of an at-large University Senator (see Article II, Section 2.A.3 of the University Senate Bylaws).  The current at-large University Senators are Dr. Ken Farr and Dr. Bob Wilson.  Dr. Farr’s term of service as a senator expires at the end of the current academic year while Dr. Wilson’s term expires at the end of the 2004-2005 academic year.  A replacement senator must be elected this spring semester to replace Dr. Farr.  To begin the process, nominations will be accepted through March 16, 2004 from members of the faculty that comprise the Corps of Instruction at GC&SU*.  Nominations should be sent electronically to Monica Wood, Administrative Assistant in the President’s Office.  Faculty nominated will be notified and if they agree to the nomination their name will be included on a ballot listing all the candidates.  Each faculty member in the Corps of Instruction will have the opportunity to vote by secret ballot for one candidate prior to a deadline of 4:00 pm on March 26, 2004.  The ballot and further instructions will be provided when the list of candidates is disseminated for voting.  The candidate that receives the most votes will then be elected as an at-large senator serving a two-year term on the GC&SU University Senate beginning with the 2004-2005 academic year.

To serve as faculty senators, faculty must be members of the Corps of Instruction and have at least two (2) years of service at Georgia College & State University at the time they take office in the fall of 2004.  Corps of Instruction faculty employed after Fall 2002 are therefore not eligible to serve on the University Senate for the 2004-2005 academic year (see Article VI, Section 2,B of the University Statutes).

Thank you for your time and consideration given to this very important task.  Remember this individual will be a senator responsible for helping guide the future direction of GC&SU.  If you have any questions, please contact a member of the GC&SU Executive Committee.
