April 17, 2003

Dear Colleagues:

It is now time to elect two (2) at-large faculty senators to serve on the University Senate for the academic year 2003-2004.  These two (2) are the last of the thirty-six (36) faculty positions to be filled and must be elected at-large by members of the Corps of Instruction.  A list of the thirty-four (34) faculty already elected to the University Senate is attached to this email.  According to the University Senate Bylaws, the Executive Committee shall conduct the election of at-large faculty senators to the University Senate (see Article II, Section 2.1 & 2.3). Open nominations will be accepted from members of the faculty that comprise the Corps of Instruction through April 21, 2003.  To facilitate the process, please ask faculty members if they are willing to serve and make sure they are not already a member before nominating them.  These nominations should be sent to Dr. Ken Farr, chair of the University Senate Executive Committee.  After nominations close, eligible faculty will then vote by secret ballot for only one candidate prior to 12:00 pm on April 25, 2003.  The ballot and further instructions will be provided when the list of nominees is disseminated for voting.  The two (2) candidates that receive the most votes will then be elected to the University Senate.  The candidate that receives the most votes will serve a 2-year term and the other will serve a 1-year term.  An excel file is also attached that list eligible faculty that comprise the Corps of Instruction.  Only faculty listed in this file are eligible to serve on the University Senate and vote in the elections for faculty senators.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me or other members of the University Senate Executive Committee (Dr. Lee Gillis, Dr. Bob Wilson, Dr. Jerry Fly, Dr. Anne Gormly, Dr. Rosemary DePaolo, and Dr. Ken Farr).  Some of your questions may be answered by reviewing the new Statutes or the University Senate Bylaws.  These can be found at http://info.gcsu.edu/intranet/univ_senate/.  Thanks for your cooperation in the important task.

Respectfully,

W. Ken Farr, Chair
